Attractions and Activities

The refreshing, lush, tropical pool, jet spa and beach of pristine sand and aqua surf are at your doorstep. The guest activities desk is there to arrange for a tee-off at a world championship golf course, tennis, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, surfing or even a helicopter ride over the Kilauea volcano. Because Hawaii is located at the edge of the tropical zone there are only two seasons. In "summer," the average daytime high temperature is 85 F; in "winter," it's about 78 F. Ocean temperatures are always warm and trade winds keep the islands cool and the humidity comfortable.

The beautiful beaches of the Big Island are numerous and uncrowded. Kauna'oa's near-perfect crescent sand was voted among the Top 10 beaches in the U.S. by Condo Naset's Travelier magazine. Reeds Bay beach on Hilo Bay near Banyan Drive is popular as a small boat port and swim spot. Kahalu'u Beach on Alii Drive near Keauhou is one of Kona's more popular beaches because of its excellent snorkeling conditions. Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, National Historical Park, South of Kealakekua Bay has an offshore reef with fantastic snorkeling. Hapuna Beach State Park on the Big Island's spectacular Kohala

coast of Hapuna has white sand and is considered one of Hawaii's finest beaches. The Disappearing Sands Beach, also known as magic sands, Alii Drive, is known to disappear overnight due to tidal shifts of strong surf, but it always returns. Anaeho'omalu Beach, on Lohala Coast, is home to an active canoe club and there is an ancient fishpond which hugs the beach. This was a major aquaculture resource in pre-contact Hawaii and visitors may observe the historical signage which informs one about the cultural importance of this area.
